Tabriz in East Azarbaijan Province will host the Atlas of Islamic World Cities (AIWC) conference in 2016, said Sadegh Najafi, director of the Board of Atlas of Islamic Cities, who is in Vienna, Austria to attend the second Worldwide Mayoral Conference on City Prosperity Initiative (CPI).
“Participating countries have chosen Tabriz among many other global metropolises,” he said, ISNA reported.
The AIWC includes sustained settlement, architecture and urban identity under the supervision of the World Assembly of Islamic Countries. It is a pilot project that covers 58 Islamic countries.
Mayors of selected Islamic cities will gather at the AIWC meet to discuss ways to incorporate and integrate Islamic culture and identity into urban structures and planning of megacities.
