The project to set up Marriage Clinics is being piloted in 10 universities of medical sciences in Isfahan, Gilan, Mazandaran, Shiraz and Alborz provinces.
“The plan seeks to help reduce and prevent divorce among young couples,” said Mohammad Esmaeil Motlagh, director general of the Office for Population, Family and School Affairs at the Health Ministry.
Studies show that most cases of divorce happen within the first five years of marriage. Also, infertility rate stands at 1.8% in the country and can reach 2.1% in some provinces like Mazandaran, Gilan, Markazi and Isfahan.
The clinics will educate the youth on married life and childbearing and provide marital and family therapy, Fararu website reports.
The project was agreed during sessions with Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi, and representatives from the Judiciary, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, the State Welfare Organization, and the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution.
